Technical and literary characteristics of the poem* complaint to God by Allama Iqbal

Abstract

Iqbal’s poem "complaint" is one of the most distinctive and beautiful poems that reached its climax in its era.  It is a clear intellectual content in the free expression and the power of sound artistic photography as his poetry is full of religious fragrance and a shower of faith. He made complaints to Allah Almighty in the words of Muslims who were living in an atmosphere of injustice and persecution. His poetic nature knows the way of expressive words, brighter images, and freshness, as the thought is being represented by him through the words and the compositions inspired by vibrant poetry with innovative pictures and imaginative and creative visions. There is no doubt that this intentionality is the mirror of the inner poet in which he sees himself as the messenger of the human conscience, based on monotheism so that the mirrors of the faithful soul brighten in the shape of poetry. In this poem, he raised a complaint to Allah Almighty in the finest emotions, the most accurate feelings, the esteem of faith, the spirit of supplication, and supplication to Allah through illuminations. He consulted many relevant topics with literary illuminations represented by different innovative styles of poetry mentioning historical accomplishments that Muslims had achieved over the various centuries while fighting infidels and polytheists, breaking idols and statues, upholding the word of oneness (Monotheism) and spreading the values of love and cooperation, establishing justice and equality and calling for knowledge as a path for the progress of nations and civilizations and the revitalization of young people for the sake of jihad and Islam.
