The art and literature of interpretation in the modern era - Muhammad Ali Al-Sabouni and his interpretation of “the elite of interpretations” as a model (A Descriptive and Analytical Study)

Abstract

The science of interpretation (Tafseer) is defined as understanding the Qura’an revealed to His Prophet Muhammad, (PBUH), explaining its meanings, extracting its rulings and wisdom. It has a great importance for understanding the meanings of the phrases and words in the verses of the Holy Qur’an.

The book (Safwat al-Tafsir) by Al-Sabouni is one of the important books of interpretation, which he wrote using what was narrated by the Prophet,(ﷺ), for his companions and the followers. It is an explanation that is not long and difficult to read, nor short of little benefit, but rather something in between, and it contains many to explained in the following two steps.

It is a book of interpretation based on conciseness and briefness, and this is a great advantage of this book, given the importance of briefness in the Arabic language.

The Safwat al-Tafsir became famous among the people. It was also accepted by scholars, who undertook it to study, research, revise, summarize, and teach.

Sheikh Al-Sabouni, , did great methodological and scientific work in providing multiple levels of interpretations that serve the contemporary Muslim, and bring Holy Qura’an closer to all Muslims,
