Writing and Formatting Guidelines for Authors

  1. File Format for Manuscript

    • Provide editable source files including figures, tables, and text graphics.
    • Use .doc/.docx for Word files. PDF is not acceptable.
    • Format text in a single column.
    • Check files for spelling and grammar errors.

  2. Submission of Files for Double Anonymized Peer Review

    JSE uses a double anonymized review process. Authors must provide:

    • Title page (with author details)
    • Anonymized manuscript (without author details) including:
      • References
      • Figures
      • Tables
      • Acknowledgements
    • Ensure no identifying information in the anonymized manuscript.

  3. Title Page

    • Article Title: Concise and informative.
    • Author Names: Full names in submission order.
    • Affiliations: Use superscripts to link to addresses.
    • Corresponding Author: Include contact info.
    • Present/Permanent Address: Add as footnote if different.

  4. Abstract

    • Should be standalone and concise.
    • Avoid references unless necessary.
    • Define abbreviations on first use.

  5. Keywords

    • Provide 4–7 keywords.
    • Use single words or well-known abbreviations.

  6. Tables

    • Submit as editable text, not images.
    • Place near related text or at the end.
    • Number tables sequentially with captions and notes below.
    • No vertical lines or shading. Use sparingly.

  7. Figures, Images, and Artwork

    • Submit as separate files.
    • Number and cite in text.
    • Use logical file names (e.g., Figure_1).
    • Captions in a separate file, minimal text on image.
    • Embed text graphics at appropriate locations.

  8. Generative AI and Images

    Clearly describe and cite any use of AI in the paper.

  9. Supplementary Material

    • Include extra files (apps, audio, images) to enhance content.
    • Cite in text and submit with article.
    • Provide descriptive captions. Disable track changes.

  10. Article Structure

    Include sections: Title, Abstract, Introduction, Literature Review, Objectives, Questions/Hypotheses, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion.

    • Introduction: State objectives and context.
    • Literature Review: Related work discussion.
    • Material and Methods: Details for reproducibility.
    • Results: Clear and concise presentation.
    • Discussion: Interpret results, minimal repetition.
    • Conclusion: Summarize findings and give recommendations.
    • Abbreviations: Define on first use.
    • Acknowledgements: On last page only.
    • Author Contributions (CRediT): List roles using CRediT taxonomy.
    • Funding Sources: Declare financial support or lack thereof.

  11. References

    • Ensure all cited sources are listed and vice versa.
    • Avoid unpublished/personal comms in the list.
    • Use APA style for all references.
    • Include DOIs when available.
