A Study of Arabic Urdu Proverbs

Abstract

Proverbs express a truth in few words, which relates to everybody’s experience, feelings, reality of things and beliefs. They are truly based on wisdom and truth and they relate to common person regardless of his class and education.

It is notable that Arabic language influenced many languages and Urdu language is one of them. Urdu Language is full of plenty of proverbs that own lots of knowledge and wisdom and both the languages have many resemblances. The Arabic language and its culture have a deep impact on Urdu language and its culture.

Regarding that we see dozens of Arabic words, which are now part of Urdu language, and lots of Arabic proverbs that carry direct and indirect impact on the Urdu language. We find many Quranic verses and Hadiths which are now being used in the Urdu language.
