On the Origin of Gypsies

Abstract

Romani language, also called Gypsy, is a satellite language of the New Indo Aryan (NIA) family spoken mainly in Eastern Europe. The speakers of this language departed from the Subcontinent approximately one thou  Kashmiri or Sindhi or (Saraiki. In the current study, we highlight similarities between Gypsy (Romani) and Pakistani languages of NIA family and
conclude that forefathers of the modern-day Romani were speakers of an older version of either Saraiki or Sindhi or Kashmiri.
