Abstract

This research work investigates the opinions of the critic Abdul Karim Al-Nahshali Al-Qayrawani on prose as they appear in his book Al-Mumti' in the Art of Poetry. For many critics the comparison between poetry and prose is still a main concern, and the importance of this research lies in presenting the ideas of on one great critic who lived in the fourth century AH. The researcher conducted a careful study of the book "Al-Muti' fi San'at Al-Shi'r" and presented his views on the comparison between poetry and prose, examining and commenting on them. Among the most important results that the researcher reached is that poetry and prose are like two racehorses for the author of Al-Muti', and the lead is for the one who masters both prose and poetry, and that is quite rare, and the enjoyment lie in poetry because of the melodies that accompany it; and prose precedes poetry if it is an eloquent sermon or a popular proverb or a valuable wisdom. The researcher eventually recommends in-depth studies of this critic; this does not mean those general studies, but rather precise studies specialized in the details that the author of Al-Muti' referred to, such as the names and personalities scattered in the work here and there, and the critical views and comments produced on.
