Saeed Al-Shartoni and his methodology in the dictionary “Aqrab Ul-Mawared”

Abstract

Many great personalities have contributed to the Arabic literature throughout the history. One of those writers is Saeed al Shartuni who devoted his life to the development of Arabic language and literature.

He is one of those prominent personalities who not only delivered in the field of linguistics but also to literature. He composed Arabic poems, wrote articles on variety of subjects and added his valuable contributions the lexicography, morphology and syntactic and many others.By religion, he was Christian and studied both Arabic and English literature widely, that was the reason he imported some new genres of literature from West to Arabic literature.

This article deals with the life and contribution of that versatile poet and writer whose valuable services are considered as primary sources for the scholars doing research in the field of linguistics and literature.
