Abstract

Intertextuality (التناص) in contemporary literature is a critical term that means the existence of verbal and moral similarity between one text and another or between two texts.

The term "intertextuality" in Arabic criticism studies has recently emerged and has been borrowed by Arab critics from the West through translation, since the literary text is not a closed linguistic system independent of the surrounding environment, but is a series of repetitions and reflections of multiple meanings, this is not to say that the concept of harmony did not exist in our critical heritage. If we look at the pre-Islamic era, we will find it manifested in the foreground, as well as the clear manifestation of the poets from the Qur'an throughout the ages, and we see it in the Abbasid era. The reflection of religious culture was apparent in works of writers and poets of that era in this creations, This is what happened in the Maqamat in the fourth, fifth and sixth centuries in which literature was enriched, where it flourished  and came to fruitful in the fifth centuries and the sixth century was the era of Maqamat. The linguistic form was the same in most of the book of Maqamat, among these writers. Al-Zamakhshri, who wrote fifty (50) Maqamat in his book, kept it in the linguistic form of the place. But Al-Zamakhshri created the uniqueness in his Maqamat , and made it worthy for research and study. Although, Al-Zamakhshri did not hesitat in the style of Al-Hamdani and Al-Hariri, but we do not find in his Maqamat fun or entertainment, but he recommends in his Maqamat call for pleasing God Almighty.

Imam Abu-Qasim Mahmud ibn 'Umar al-Zamakhshari,(467-538), was a scholar of interpretation, modernity, and linguistics, but he is not known for many intellectuals that he was a writer of the Maqamat. We have been fascinated by the study of Maqamat, which is characterized by special features in Arabic literature.

In this study, we tried to highlight the religious affiliation of Abu-Qasim Mahmud ibn Umar al-Zamakhshri.  Al-Zamakhshri of course, benefited from the religious literature, as did the Muslim writers of all ages. He quoted the words from the Quran and Sunnah and imported the meanings of the Islamic literatures. This research contains different aspects of verbal, moral and intellectual intertextuality. I also searched for the origins of Islamic art in Maqamat al-Zamakhshari.
