Abstract

Sheikh Abdul Haleem Mahmood (1910 - 1978) is one of the scholars and literary personalities whose important contribution in research, editing, authorship and translation. He will be remembered as the former rector of Al-Azhar University, whose great contributions in Sufism. He was known for his modernizing approach to teaching at Al-Azhar, preaching moderation as a religious duty. His form of Sufism was based on Qur'an and the prophet's traditions in a manner. He is considered the owner and pioneer of the school of Islamic thought and Sufism in the modern era. He was known to have a calm, tender and sober personality. 

In this article, I have tried to write about Al-Sheikh Abdul Haleem Mahmood’s life who is the great writer, researcher, translator and author of almost 60 books.

This study aims to focus on his life and important aspect of his books. I will discuss his life, books and his autobiography and major events which are discussed in it particularly his autobiography “Alhamdulillah Hazihi Hayati” (الحمد لله هذه حياتي)
