A Thematic Analysis of Biography of the Prophet (ﷺ) in Surah An-Nur and Surah Al-Furqan
Abstract
This research paper explores the Seerah-related content embedded within Surah An-Nur and Surah Al-Furqan, focusing on a thematic and analytical study of the Qur'anic portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ character, societal role, and responses to contemporary challenges. Surah An-Nur primarily addresses the Prophet’s role in establishing moral, social, and ethical foundations within the Muslim community, particularly in the context of the incident of Ifk (false Accusation Against Aisha رضي الله عنها), emphasizing his leadership and the divine protection of his reputation.
Surah Al-Furqan, on the other hand, counters the objections raised by disbelievers against the Prophet’s mission and personality. It presents a vivid portrayal of the Prophet ﷺ as the ‘ideal human’ and highlights the moral qualities of his followers, known as 'Ibad-ur-Rahman'. The paper examines how both Surahs defend the sanctity of Prophethood and reinforce the ethical and spiritual authority of the Prophet ﷺ through divine discourse.
By comparing the narrative style, thematic emphasis, and rhetorical methods employed in both Surahs, this study contributes to the understanding of Qur’anic Seerah as a source of historical, ethical, and theological insight. The research employs a qualitative content analysis approach, supported by classical and contemporary exegeses, and concludes that the Qur’anic depiction of the Prophet ﷺ in these Surahs is central to constructing an ideal Islamic moral framework.
