An Exclusive Study of the Qur'anic Seerah-Related Insights and Subtleties in Safwat al-Tafasir

Abstract

The Holy Qur’an is the primary source of Islamic Shari’ah, and the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) serves as its practical interpretation. As the Sunnah holds a central place in understanding the Qur’an, it plays a significant role in Qur’anic exegesis. Among modern Arabic Tafasir, “Safwat al-Tafasir” by Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni stands out for its balanced and comprehensive approach. The final section of this tafsir, titled “Al-Fawa’id wal-Lata’if”, includes interpretive reflections and benefits derived from Qur’anic verses. Some of these benifits and subtleties pertain to aspects of the Prophetic Seerah, encompassing topics such as worship, social dealings, ethical conduct, methods of da‘wah, initiating religious guidance within the family, the Prophet’s admonition to the Jews regarding their distortions, fear of Allah, contemplation, humility, forgiveness, asceticism, piety, the significance of lawful sustenance for the acceptance of supplications, acknowledgment of the Prophet’s truthfulness by opponents, and the sacrifices of the Prophet’s companions during battles.This article offers a specialized analytical study of the Seerah-related benifits and subtleties found in Safwat al-Tafasir, employing principles of Qur’anic exegesis and Seerah studies to highlight their contemporary relevance.

Its methodology takes into account the principles of Qur’anic exegesis and the principles of Seerah, and its style is analytical and research-based.
