Abstract

Asrar al-Tanzeel and Akram al-Tafaseer are two distinguished Qur’anic commentaries byMaulana Muhammad Akram Awan (ﷲ ہﻤﺣﺭ), reflecting his deep spiritual insight and reformative vision.Asrar al-Tanzeel, a six-volume tafseer, is written in an easy and fluent style. It represents a Sufi-oriented interpretation of the Qur’an, containing frequent discussions on spirituality,prophetic infallibility, and the virtues of the Companions. The work also includes fiqhi and Seerahbased themes,drawingmainly from Tafseer Mazhari and Ma’ariful Qur’an, though it gives limited attention to the technical aspects of Qur’anic sciences.Akram al-Tafaseer, based on Maulana’s lectures, is a comprehensive,rhetorical, and reformative tafseer.It reflects Tafseer bil-Ra’y alMahmood al-Ja’iz—interpretation through sound reasoning rooted in Qur’an andSunnah.The commentary relates Qur’anic teachings to modern social, political, and economic issues,upholding orthodox beliefs such as the finality of prophethood and the honor of the Companions.Both works display Maulana Awan’s scholarly depth and spiritual erspective.While Asrar al-Tanzeel emphasizes simplicity and spiritual reflection, Akram al-Tafaseer offers a broad, analytical, and contemporary approach—making them valuable modern contributions to Qur’anic exegesis.
