Literacy and numeracy serve as crucial foundations for enhancing the quality of student learning at the primary school level. The employed research methodology is action research utilizing a qualitative approach. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and recording in the Education unit of the 11 Sungai Nyirih State Elementary School, involving various teachers, students, and library managers. The study's findings indicate that school libraries are crucial for learning support by offering pertinent materials, conducting literacy activities like shared reading, and facilitating interactive numeracy training. Nonetheless, challenges such as restricted book collections, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to technology hinder the efficacy of libraries in facilitating learning. This study suggests that enhanced administration, increased acquisition of instructional resources, and technological integration can enable school libraries to significantly improve student reading and numeracy quality. The ideas propose the creation of enhanced reading and numeracy programs, including training for library administrators to address issues in the digital age.
2025-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJLTP https://ojs.aiou.edu.pk/index.php/ijltp/article/view/2796 Analyzing the Implementation of Mindsets and Qualities Competencies within the iNACOL Blended Learning Framework at College Level in Pakistan: The Role of Online Literacy in Enhancing Learning Outcomes 2025-02-18T10:22:26+00:00 Javarea Meer javaria.mir@yahoo.com
Blended learning, which integrates traditional face-to-face instruction with online learning components, has grown in importance in enhancing learning outcomes. Despite its potential, successful implementation is often hindered by the mindsets and qualities competencies of teachers. This study aimed to analyze the current status and level of implementation of teachers’ mindsets and qualities competencies mentioned in “The International Association for K-12 Online Learning” (iNACOL) framework at college level in Pakistan and to analyze the role of online literacy in enhancing educational outcomes. This research uses quantitative approach. 206 college teachers were selected randomly. Standards of mindsets and qualities domains listed in the iNACOL Blended Learning Teacher Competency Framework were used as an adapted questionnaire with 16 statements on a 5-point Likert scale. Data was analyzed by using mean and frequency of responses. The results indicate a large number of college teachers in Pakistan have changed their traditional mindsets as they have new visions for teaching and learning. While qualities competencies are at neutral level as these are not fully implemented. It is recommended to Implement targeted professional development workshops focused on qualities competencies, providing teachers with practical strategies to incorporate these elements into their instruction. It will enhance teachers’ skills and ultimately leading to more effective blended learning environments.
2025-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJLTP https://ojs.aiou.edu.pk/index.php/ijltp/article/view/2532 Effects of Corporal Activities on Inattention and Impulsivity/ Hyperactivity during Non-formal Health Literacy Program 2024-11-15T05:02:56+00:00 Iffat Nazir Khan iffatnawaz5@gmail.com Shamaila Hamid Mahmud shamailabrar1@gmail.com
This study investigated how teenage impulsivity/ hyperactivity, and inattention were affected by corporal activities. It improved our
comprehension of these symptoms of ADHD in light of Pakistan's increasing acknowledgment of psychological disorders as a prevalent cooccurring illness. The study emphasized the responsibilities that parents, neighbors, and the larger community played in the lives of teens with ADHD, focusing on their perceptions of sports and ADHD symptoms. Three participants, all WICA (Wasim International Cricket Academy) players in a weekend program that used non-formal education settings to test their hyperactivity/ impulsivity and inattention, were examined using qualitative, descriptive, and case study methodologies. In-depth interviews were used to gather data, with a focus on teenagers with ADHD who showed heightened levels of these symptoms. The results showed that leisure time activities considerably lessened the hyperactivity/ impulsivity and inattention symptoms in two out of three subjects. This study established a framework for further research and emphasized how critical it was to attend to the special requirements of teenagers with ADHD in the
community.
2025-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJLTP https://ojs.aiou.edu.pk/index.php/ijltp/article/view/2789 Unlocking Power of Phonics for Literacy: Revolutionizing Reading Literacy Skills Development through Phonics Technique in Non-Formal Basic Education Schools 2025-02-17T06:12:39+00:00 Muhizma Kanwal muhizamakunwal@gmail.com
This study was conducted to find out the effects phonic technique on students’ literacy skills (reading skills of English language) at primary level. Population of study comprised on all students at Non-Formal Basic Education Schools. By using cluster sampling technique, the researcher selected four Non formal basic education schools of village Nara (Attock). Total number of the students involved in the experiment was 32. Sample students were distributed in two equal classes by pairing on the base of equal marks and mean score. Both classes were labelled as A and B. Class A, and B was randomly assigned to either experimental or control group.
The pretest posttest control group design, that is, true experimental pretest post-test design was used. For the purpose of getting result a test was developed. Its items were selected after its validation from five experts. The reliability of test items was assessed through pilot study indicating .84* alpha reliability coefficient. In the test the researcher assessed four reading skills including phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. The experimental group was taught using phonics and control group was taught using traditional techniques (read aloud and rereading). Experiment was of one-month duration and 26 lesson plans were developed. Time duration for each lesson plan was 40 minutes. Results were analyzed through t-test. Results showed that phonic technique had significant effects on students’ reading skills as compared to traditional techniques. So, it is recommended that English teachers may be trained and encouraged for using phonic technique and picture support technique in teaching English reading.
2025-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJLTP https://ojs.aiou.edu.pk/index.php/ijltp/article/view/2646 Use of Social Media Tools in Literacy Uplift of Youngsters 2024-12-04T09:04:15+00:00 Mazian Arooj musaanamta@gmail.com
Media literacy is a growing concern now a days. The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of the use of social media tools in literacy uplift of youngsters. The major objective of the study was to analyze the role of social media tools (WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube) in improving literacy skills of youngsters. The population for this study was postgraduate students of AIOU Spring 2023. Sample comprised of randomly selected 100 students who were using social media in their studies. Research design was quantitative in which survey was used. Data collection was done online through a self-developed questionnaire. Results indicated that most of the respondents used phones for knowledge sharing, academic purposes, group discussions etc. Different social media tools WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook etc. help students to solve their study related problems. Students get assistance in their exams, different videos, online study groups on WhatsApp assist students to improve their literacy skills. Social media allows students to work together globally to solve problems affecting the whole world. It is recommended that educational institutions may focus on the creation of online groups for students to easily communicate and work together, especially using smartphones. Moreover, educational institutes may provide students guidance on how to use social media tools for educational and career advantages.
2025-03-24T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJLTP
